Our Mission

Youth Development Through Shooting Sports

The SSSF manages clay target and action shooting youth development programs in which adult coaches and other volunteers use shooting sports to teach and demonstrate sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and other positive life skills. Athletes compete in team-based shooting sports where there is no such thing as being “benched”, offering a truly level playing field to all.

Safety Information

The shooting sports are one of the safest activities available to youth today! In fact, compared to other popular forms of recreation, the shooting sports have some of the lowest occurrences of injury.

Collaborating with incredible organizations like these helps further our mission of teaching young athletes how to demonstrate sportsmanship, responsibility, honesty, ethics, integrity, teamwork, and other positive life skills.

It is critical that youth have a positive coach who pursues winning and the even more important goal of teaching life lessons through shooting sports. To ensure our young athletes receive positive experiences, the SSSF has partnered with the PCA to provide coach training resources that helps ensure an enriching experience from team-based shooting sports and apply it to the rest of their lives.

Originally formed by the NSSF in 2007 to manage the already established Scholastic Clay Target Program, the SSSF has since become the leader in youth development shooting sports programs. The NSSF continues to be an ally in promoting youth shooting sports throughout the nation.

The MidwayUSA Foundation is an instrumental partner in our mission to promote youth development through team-based shooting sports. Throughout the season, various opportunities for SASP and SCTP teams to receive funding team endowment accounts are made possible through the generosity of Larry and Brenda Potterfield and the dedicated, hardworking staff at the MidwayUSA Foundation.

Conservation Organizations

We believe in providing multiple opportunities for youth development in the shooting sports. Shooting sports support conservation efforts through the Pittman Robertson Act and provide natural connections between hunters and those not yet exposed to hunting. Partnerships with state-government and conservation non-profits enable us to provide more healthy, outdoor opportunities for youth.

Shooting Associations

Our mission to facilitate youth development through shooting sports is further strengthened by our partnership with organizations like the NSSA, ATA, and NSCA. Our youth shooting sports programs are the official youth feeder programs for USA Shooting and give the opportunity for young athletes to pursue their Olympic dreams.
